-
- ---------------------------------- SUMMARY ----------------------------------
-
- If you are an author, sysop, vendor or publisher of electronic material such
- as reviews and newsletters, PowerInstall can be very beneficial to your
- operations. Or, perhaps you'd just like to create some custom, mouse-driven
- menus to navigate your system. Keep reading...
-
- PowerInstall is two utilities in one. Both are conceived and designed to make
- life easier on your end users.
-
- First, PowerInstall is a script compiler. You give it an ascii script and it
- gives you an EXE file. All relevant error checking is handled automatically.
- Monochrome and color displays are supported. Mouse support is built-in.
-
- The script language consists of a high level set of commands which let you:
-
- Define text windows Write to windows
- Read strings from windows Read individual keystrokes
- Define and 'read' menu windows Read mouse button clicks
- Execute EXE/COM/BAT files Execute EXE/COM/BATs invisibly
- View files Copy files
- Verify paths Make directories
- Change directories Delete files and directories
- Pause for 1/2 second intervals Move the cursor
- Exit and return an errorlevel Declare variables
- Goto labels Gosub & return from labels
- Perform 'if' statements Increment & decrement variables
-
- You'll find PowerInstall gives you the ease of simplicity and the flexibility
- for sophistication. It's up to you.
-
- Second, PowerInstall is what I call a self-extractor to self-installer
- converter. Using your favorite archiver, you compress your package into a
- self-extracting EXE or COM file. Somewhere in that mess is probably an
- INSTALL.BAT, EXE or COM file which you hope the end user will have the
- patience and ability to find and execute. Why not have it automatically
- executed when the package is extracted? Take control from the start. You give
- PowerInstall a self-extracting archive, and it gives you a self-installing
- package.
-
- Two types of self-installers can be produced, a version that runs strictly
- from the command-line (6k added to the file size) and one that runs in more
- user-friendly text windows (13k added to the file size).
-
- Sysops - Consider re-archiving some of your popular archives as
- PowerInstall self-installers that automatically execute your
- own personal mouse & window-driven BBS AD and then execute
- whatever installation program is already there. No upload
- scanner can automatically remove that. It stays permanent from
- the point of origin.
-
- Authors - Make a good first impression on your users. Do the work for
- them. Make it easy for them to make a 'buy' decision.
-
- Vendors - Relieve your customers of some those complicated installation
- instructions. Free space on your disk labels. Keep 'em coming
- back. Cut down tech-support calls.
-
- Writers - Why not throw up a nice menu of choices of articles to read.
- Take advantage of the menu and file viewing functions in the
- script language.
-
- There are no royalties, and as a member of the Association of Shareware
- Professionals, I provide this software without disabled features or
- 'Crippling'.
